In May of 1998, the Board of Directors of the Skye Terrier Club of America voted to establish the Skye Terrier Foundation and lead the way in health, research, rescue and education.
Their vision and commitment to Skye welfare, health and educational issues will have a positive impact on the future of our
"heavenly" breed. It is our individual and collective responsibility to use the tools of modern technology toward the betterment of the well being of our breed. We each must guard and cherish their individual and collective health and welfare. The future of the health and well being of our breed is the responsibility of each individual Skye fancier and breeder. The legacy of our beloved Skyes rests in our hands. To quote Lee Arnold of the Chinese Shar-Pei Club of America Charitable Trust: Health is a choice not a chance. Our commitment to the improvement of our breed's health and our stewardship of their welfare is the singularly most important, most unselfish thing we can do. We stand on the brink of amazing advances which will significantly improve the quality of life of our beloved
Skyes. We gain new insights into the mechanism of disease and defects. We will have the ability and knowledge to resolve many health and welfare issues and breed healthier, sounder dogs. The establishment of the Skye Terrier Foundation marks the beginning of our formal quest to realize these goals.
